Roof Rat Clinic was a Big Success!
The Educational Clinic held last month on September 22 at the Madison Schools parking lot was well-attended and distributed needed information to our neighborhood and many surrounding areas. We estimated about 200 people attended the event.
The event included informational booths from Barry Paceley (Arcadia Neighbor to Neighbor Campaign), Maricopa County Vector control, Victor Pest Products, Koller True Value Hardware (trap product information), and Madison Matters Fight Back (information on trap setting).
We had terrific sponsors that made the event possible - Dircks Moving and Storage provided boxes when we conducted the door-to-door distribution of flyers announcing the event; the Victor company provided moral support and color brochures; Koller True Value Hardware provided money-saving coupons and volunteer time. A special thanks goes out to Boy Scout troop 49 who helped us distribute more than 2000 bags of roof rat information to residents between Camelback and Glendale, 7th St and 12th St. It was huge effort and they were champions with energy and a great attitude!
This project was made possible through many volunteer hours from many residents of our neighborhood and we thank everyone that contributed to make this a huge success. The Madison Matters Fight Back program was the source for some of the funding needed to make the event possible - we believe that this has fostered new community relationships with many area residents and businesses and we hope that this type of educational outreach effort spreads throughout the City!
If you missed the event, we can still help you with advice and resources - just send us an email!
Autumn will go by quickly and it will soon be time for fruit harvesting; if you can help us organize fruit picking events and coordination of donations of fruit to area food banks, please let us know! If we take away the rat’s food and water source, we’re helping to stop the spread!
