NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
MINUTES
9/21/06
Attendees: Tamara Schroll, Tin Tuntland, Cindy Barnhill, Beverly Krumm
Tim, Cindy updated Tamara on Fight Back Kick-Off Meeting on 9/6. Boundaries: Camelback-Glendale, 7th to 12th streets. Funds distributed equally to area. Long process: 18-24 months-will require neighborhood participation. Name: Madison Matters. The City has committed to providing resources to this area during this time.
Tamara recommended steps to keeping meeting on track: Agenda setup in categories: Newsletter, Projects, Events, Outreach. All agreed. Cindy is taking over minutes, updating Colter Commons file and treasury duties.
Newsletter:
September issue was distributed, however, the distribution was “iffyâ€â€”meaning some may have been missed. All agreed we need more distributors.
Projects:
Traffic:
Beverly spoke briefly to Greg Gonzalez, Neighborhood Specialist, at Fight Back Meeting about our traffic project.
Action Item: Tamara will create a graphic by 10/2 with the traffic changes recommended by the Board in the previous meeting.
Action Item: Beverly will contact Greg Gonzales to arrange a meeting the week of 10/9 to review graphic and suggest best course of action to proceed.
SPD:
Tamara met with Katherine Cole, Neighborhood Specialist, to discuss an SPD for Colter Commons. Katherine made it clear that, unless there is a dedicated group, the SPD will fail. At this point, we do not have enough members to pursue.
Fight Back
Tim Tuntland will be a Committee Chairman and new Board member. Action Item: Beverly will contact Greg to determine when next Fight Back Training will be held so she, Tim and others can attend.
Historic Home:
It was decided to pursue designation of 1002 E Pasadena (ginger bread house) as an historic Home.
Action Item: Cindy will take on this project.
Events:
GAIN (Get AZ Involved in Neighborhoods) will assist with our Block Party-planned for Saturday, 10/21. We will use this event to promote Fight Back and recruit volunteers for this program and the Board.
Action Item: Tamara will create a flyer to recruit helpers (signs, tables, flyer distribution, etc) for this event and door-to-door distribution.
Action Item: Cindy will email the flyer to the neighborhood list.
Outreach:
Tamara spoke with Joe Beth Jamieson (a writer for NCN) who may assist with future newsletters and distribution. Cheryl Colan has offered her services for updating website but was unable to attend Thursday meeting. The Board decided to see if we could meet Cheryl on Tuesday, 9/26 at Padres to discuss.
Action Item: Tamara will contact Cheryl about this meeting.
